Marc Overmars has committed his future to Ajax, effectively ruling out the possibility of becoming Arsenal’s new sporting director by signing a new contract with the Dutch club until 2024.
The former Gunner had been linked with a move back to the Premier League club but he will instead remain with Ajax.
The 45-year-old made 143 appearances for Arsenal between 1997 and 2000.
He retired from football in 2009 and has been part of Ajax’s management since 2012.
“There are still plenty of challenges at Ajax and I’m having a good time here,†Overmars said.
“We are taking steps with both the youth academy and the first team and we still want to show a lot.â€
