Liverpool news: Reds freeze all ticket prices for fourth consecutive season

Liverpool have confirmed they will freeze all season and general admission ticket prices for a fourth season in a row.

The decision comes after persistent pressure from fan groups and ongoing calls for a fairer price structure in the Premier League.

Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham will also keep season ticket prices the same for the 2019/20 campaign.

Liverpool recently announced record pre-tax profits of £125million over the previous financial year and broadcasting deals continue to bring more wealth into the game.

The Reds have been keen to avoid ticket price hikes following the mass walk-out at Anfield in February 2016 in protest against controversial top-tier pricing plans.

The club’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, subsequently reversed the policy and prices have been frozen ever since.

‘Spirit of Shankly’, the Liverpool supporters’ group, have been instrumental in ensuring the club acts in accordance with the fans’ wishes.

“The club has continued to engage with a wide range of supporters regarding ticket prices and initiatives through its regular fan forums,” read a Liverpool statement.

Liverpool transfer news: Who should Reds target if Mohamed Salah leaves for Real Madrid? Including stars from Lille and Ajax

Liverpool transfer news: Who should Reds target if Mohamed Salah leaves for Real Madrid? Including stars from Lille and Ajax

Mohamed Salah has had another stellar season in the Premier League.

The Egyptian netted 22 goals to share the Golden Boot with his team-mate Sadio Mane and Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Unfortunately for Reds fans, his superb displays have once again fuelled speculation of a big money move away in the summer.

Real Madrid have reportedly made ‘initial contact’ with Salah’s representatives over a transfer to the Spanish capital, with the 26-year-old said to be one of Zinedine Zidane’s top targets as he continues to plan his squad overhaul at the Bernebeu.

But if Salah was to be lured to LaLiga, who could replace him at Anfield? talkSPORT.com has identifed four players Klopp could target.

Florian Thauvin (Marseille)

Thauvin found it tough at Newcastle but has been sensational for Marseille

Thauvin found it tough at Newcastle but has been sensational for Marseille

Having struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League with Newcastle, Florian Thauvin has really found his feet in Ligue 1 with Marseille and has been outstanding this season.

The Frenchman has netted 15 goals and added eight assists in 32 matches to cement his name as one of the best performers in the French top-flight this campaign.

Finding a player who has composure in front of goal is crucial if Liverpool are to replace Salah, and Thauvin possesses that ability to find the net.

Klopp will have to fight to secure his signature however, as AC Milan, Atletico Madrid and Inter have all shown interest in the forward.

Nicolas Pepe (Lille)

Pepe is one of the most in-demand players in Europe

Lille forward Nicolas Pepe has become one of the hottest properties in Europe for his stunning displays in Ligue 1 this season.

The 23-year-old has shot to prominence after scoring 22 goals and providing 11 assists in the French division and he is now at the centre of a tug-of-war between Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United.

Having joined Lille in 2017 for around £10million, his move now seems inevitable after his manager revealed the club were powerless to stop him moving on.

“Nicolas Pepe will leave. Life’s like that, football’s like that today,” Galtier is quoted by the Mail.

“He is a player of the highest level who will have a big decision to make on the choice of his next club. There will be a battle between the great European teams.”

Pepe can play across the front three but is most accustomed to occupying the right-flank, where Salah is preferred in Klopp’s set-up.

Hakim Ziyech (Ajax)

Hakim Ziyech claimed it was a ‘dream’ to play for Arsenal back in 2017

Another player who should be on Klopp’s radar if Salah leaves is Ajax star Hakim Ziyech.

Ziyech enjoyed a fantastic season in Amsterdam – helping Erik ten Hag’s side lift the Eredivisie trophy and the KNVB Cup.

And, on a personal level, the 26-year-old claimed the club’s Player of the Year award thanks largely to his 21 goals and 24 assists in 49 games.

Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars recently revealed Ziyech – who has a release clause of £25million – is free to leave in the summer.

However, Ziyech recently revealed his preferred destination is Arsenal or Barcelona – although Liverpool’s offer of Champions League football could trump the interest of their Premier League rivals.

Steven Bergwijn (PSV)

PSV youngster Steven Bergwijn has had a storming season in the Eredivisie.

The 21-year-old was instrumental in his side’s title challenge and scored 14 goals in 33 matches as his side were pipped to the Eredivisie crown by Ajax.

Bergwijn also contributed 12 assists this season and although he may not be the finished article just yet, he could be the ideal long-term replacement for Salah if he leaves the club.

Liverpool have been linked with the winger in recent weeks but they face competition from Manchester United, who are also tracking his progress  – and a reported £30million price tag has been placed on his head.

‘Look at Mesut Ozil…He’s League One’ – talkSPORT host Adrian Durham urges Leicester’s James Maddison NOT to join Arsenal

talkSPORT host Adrian Durham has issued an emotional plea to Leicester’s James Maddison – “Do not waste your talent by going to Arsenal!”

Maddison, 22, has risen the ranks of English football where he started at Coventry before moving to Championship club Norwich in February 2016.

Maddison has proved an excellent signing for Leicester

Maddison has proved an excellent signing for Leicester

He then got his move to the Premier League last summer when Leicester acquired him for a fee believed to be in the region of £20million.

The midfielder has enjoyed a good first season in the top flight and received his first call-up to the England side for their UEFA Nations League qualifiers against Croatia and Spain in November.

And now Maddison is being tipped for a move to north London as a replacement for Juventus-bound Aaron Ramsey.

  • Opinion: James Maddison has the ability and the maturity to replace Aaron Ramsey at Arsenal

Maddison to Arsenal is a good move for him in the eyes of many but Durham definitely doesn’t believe it would be a wise career move for the Leicester man.

So on Wednesday’s edition of Drivetime, Durham issued an emotional plea to Maddison to not go to the Emirates Stadium as he will end up like ‘League One’ Mesut Ozil!

Durham said: “I’m actually quite upset about this, I’m actually quite tearful, emotional about it and I want to make a plea to James Maddison.

“Do NOT go to Arsenal.

Durham is certain Arsenal is not the right club for Maddison…or anyone for that matter!

Durham is certain Arsenal is not the right club for Maddison…or anyone for that matter!

“Look at Mesut Ozil. Similar player but not as good as you are James but he was brilliant before then and look what happened!

“He goes and LOOK at him. He’s League One!

“Do not go to Arsenal, you will not level out. You will bottom out at Arsenal. It’s such a football vacuum.

“Why would you want to go there? You’ll be playing computer games all night and be too tired to play on a Saturday.

“It will be incredibly detrimental to your career.

“Look at you now – just imagine you’re at Arsenal and you’re putting on the shirt at the Emirates and compare when you first came to Leicester.

“You saw Wes Morgan behind you and you probably thought ‘really?’

“But you’ll be going to Arsenal and you’ll see Shkodran Mustafi. Then you’ll realise just how bad defenders can be!

Durham believes Maddison can do better than having the likes of Mustafi as a team-mate

“So James Maddison everything has been going really well – you’ve come from League Two and League One with Coventry and the Championship with Norwich, up to the Premier League, more than holding your own, one of the best English players around.

“Do not WASTE that talent by going to Arsenal.”

Manchester United transfers: Who is Nathan Collins? The Stoke City starlet recommended by ex-Red Devil Darren Fletcher

Manchester United look set to land Nathan Collins from Stoke City during the summer.

The 18-year-old centre-back is highly rated and made his senior debut in April for the Championship club.

Nathan Collins has represented Republic of Ireland at under-17 levelCollins could be seen as a long-term solution to United’s central defensive issues, which have been evident this season.

If the Red Devils sell Marcus Rojo and Eric Bailly in the summer then they will be left with just Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Victor Lindelof.

The youngster could also be seen as somewhat of a cheaper option than the rest of the central defenders available, such as Matthijs de Ligt and Toby Alderweireld.

What have his coaches said about him?

“I wouldn’t have put him on the bench if he wasn’t ready,” Stoke boss Nathan Jones told the Stoke Sentinel. “We have enough senior pros here we could have played without a problem, but I have no problem with picking him because he’s been in that vein of form.”

“He’s trained with us and we were always looking to give him a game before the end of the season because he’s earned that.

“He’s been excellent in training and how he’s done stuff and when he came on at Swansea he didn’t look out of place in any way, shape or form. That’s the confidence of the lad.

Outgoing academy director Gareth Jennings had said at the start of the season: “He’s been doing well in that under-23s environment and I don’t think it’s beyond him to get around the first team.

“I look at clubs in League One and League Two and he is already better than some defenders at that level.”

Why do Manchester United want him?

Collins was recommended to the Red Devils by Darren Fletcher who believes the young centre-back is a star in the making.

Fletcher spent 12 and a half seasons with the club where he won five Premier League titles.
