It means Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men remain in sixth position in the Premier League but are four points off fourth-placed Tottenham with one game left.
Meanwhile, Chelsea took a giant leap towards finishing in the top four with a 3-0 triumph over Watford and Arsenal are at home to Brighton on Sunday.
And after their quarter-final exit in this season’s Champions League, United fans will have to settle for Europa League football in the 2019/20 campaign.
It’s a massive disappointment for the 20-time English champions, who underwent a mini revival when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took charge, winning ten of his opening twelve league matches in charge, the other two were draws.
But they’ve hit bad form during the ‘run-in’ phase of the season, winning just two of their last eight in the league.
And this was the perfect opportunity for Liverpool fans to chime in and wind up their rivals, with some making reference to the Europa League as well as United’s inability to get past an already relegated Terriers side.
