Jose Mourinho: Former Chelsea and Manchester United manager ‘wants Lyon or Monaco job’ as he eyes return to football

Jose Mourinho hopes to become either Lyon or Monaco’s new manager as the former Chelsea and Manchester United boss eyes a return to football.

That is according to Wednesday’s front page of L’Equipe, the popular French newspaper devoted to sport.

Mourinho remains out of work having been sacked by the Red Devils last December, but he hopes to be back in the game before the start of 2019/20 pre-season.

He was previously linked with returning to Real Madrid when Santiago Solari was under severe pressure, though Zinedine Zidane accepted the opportunity of reclaiming the Bernabeu hotseat as his own, despite resigning from the post just ten months prior.

Other top European clubs are believed to have considered the possibility of hiring Mourinho, including Inter Milan – another of his former clubs – as well as Paris Saint-Germain.

But rather than joining PSG for next season, Mourinho could instead be coming up AGAINST the perennial Ligue 1 champions.

According to French media outlet L’Equipe, the Portuguese has targeted either Lyon or Monaco, both domestic rivals of PSG, as his ideal destinations.

Lyon are currently coached by Bruno Genesio, and they sit 24 points behind Paris in the Ligue 1 standings.

Their season has been far more favourable than Monaco’s, with the Principality club enduring a tumultuous campaign – and they remain only eight points above the bottom three.

Leonardo Jardim has the reins at the Stade Louis II, but only after being sacked and replaced by Thierry Henry last October.

Arsenal legend Henry was dismissed just three months later and Jardim was then reinstated as the club’s manager.
