Bolton Wanderers: Owner Ken Anderson claims he has accepted offer to sell club as players go on strike for second time

Last month, he informed staff that a deal could be completed within 48 hours.

Wages to players and staff have been consistently paid late and the players have gone on strike for the second time this season.

They have informed the club they will not return to training until club staff are paid their salaries for March, which were due last Friday.

Anderson posted an update on the Bolton website on Tuesday.

He wrote: “There has been a great deal of speculation over the last few weeks about the identity of the purchasers of my shares, a great deal of which is pure unfounded speculation, likewise on the price of my shares.

“For the record, I have accepted an offer of less than what I paid, so I am not holding out for a big profit as is continuously and incorrectly bandied around in the media and on social media.

“Unfortunately, there are several local individuals who are making themselves very busy talking to the media and anyone else who will listen, purporting to be buying the club.

“I can categorically state that most of the names being mentioned on social media are people who might have expressed an interest, but have never been able to provide documentary evidence that they have the liquid cash funds.”

The Bolton owner also posted comments about the players’ recent decision to go on strike.

He added: “Obviously, the players’ decision to go on strike is very disappointing and once again, I would reiterate that in my three years at the club, the staff have only been paid late once and yesterday was only the second time.

“Likewise, the players have also only been paid late three times. The reality is that they have always been paid.

“We are not the only club to have paid players late and there are many precedents of this happening.”

On Tuesday night, Matthijs de Ligt once again showed why he is considered one of the best young prospects in European football.

Still only 19, he netted the key goal for Ajax as they defeated Juventus in the Champions League and sealed their progression to the semi-finals of the competition.

Wonderfully composed, blessed technically and a strong presence too, it’s no wonder Barcelona are among the clubs expected stump up a huge fee for his transfer in the summer.

Given team-mate Frenkie de Jong has already joined the Spaniards for £65million, De Ligt may well leave for a similar, if not higher sum.

The Dutchman’s performances in the Champions League have shown he should be able to cope with the step up in league level, despite many still feeling the Eredivisie lacks any strength and depth. But who are the top wonderkids from Europe’s top five leagues?

We’ve taken a look at WhoScored.com and found out their top 20 players 23-years-old. You can see how they rank below.

20. Kai Havertz (Bayer Leverkusen) – 7.13/10 on WhoScored.com

Already plenty of Premier League clubs are keeping tabs on the attacking midfielder thanks to his 13 goals and three assists this campaign. He’s just 19 and has potential to become one of the best in Europe.

18= Luka Jovic (Eintracht Frankfurt) – 7.14/10 on WhoScored.com

After a successful loan spell, the striker has now joined the Bundesliga side permanently after a terrific season which has seen the 21-year-old net 17 goals as he links tremendously with Sebastien Haller. Good in the air, as well as with the ball at his feet, Benfica may regret letting him go so easily.

17. Timo Werner (RB Leipzig) – 7.15/10 on WhoScored.com

According to reports, the Germany international is Liverpool’s top summer target and could move for as low as £43million as he contract expires in 2020. He could be superb linking up again with former team-mate Naby Keita.

16. Serge Gnabry (Bayern Munich) – 7.18/10 on WhoScored.com

Arsenal must be kicking themselves having seen his career blossom back in his homeland. Gnabry could get even better if he improves himself defensively and adds some more assists to his season tally.

15. Ibrahim Sangare (Toulouse) – 7.19/10 on WhoScored.com

Currently forging a reputation for himself in France as a fine defensive midfielder, Sangare will be on a few radars this summer. Don’t sleep on his excellent passing either, he’s got excellent technical capabilities.

14. Wilfred Ndidi (Leicester City) – 7.20/10 on WhoScored.com

The Nigerian has been phenomenal for two seasons now and plays a key role in the Foxes midfield. If Brendan Rodgers can keep him this summer the club could really push the top six if they make the right signings.

13. Ibrahima Konate (RB Leipzig) – 7.21/10 on WhoScored.com

Strong in the air and a master at keeping it simple, Konate is excelling the Bundesliga. Arsenal are reportedly looking at the Frenchman and it is unsurprising. He could do with improving his passing but he still moves the ball forward well.

11. Allan Saint-Maximin (Nice) – 7.23/10 on WhoScored.com

A fine dribbler, he’s still got lots to work on, but he’s getting there. He’s added more goals to his game but is under performing his expected assists, according to UnderStat.com. He got seven last year but has just three this season.

9. Aaron Wan-Bissaka (Crystal Palace) – 7.27/10 on WhoScored.com

The winger turned full-back is almost certainly set for a huge transfer, whether it is sooner or later. The long-legged 21-year-old executes superbly-timed challenges and has the pace to go toe-to-toe with any winger. He’s got great ability progressing the football too, so it wasn’t a surprise when Tottenham Hotspur used Danny Rose to handle him – a huge compliment.

The talented France ace is finding his feet at the Nou Camp this season and almost landed a knockout blow to Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League. He’s still improving – and still only 21 – while being third fiddle to Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez has meant it’s been tricky for him to fully flourish.

5. Leroy Sane (Manchester City) – 7.37/10 on WhoScored.com

After being left out of Germany’s World Cup squad, Leroy Sane started the campaign like a man possessed. And, just like his playing style, the winger has not let up as the season has progressed by tearing through some of the best defences in the country. Under Pep Guardiola, Sane continues to develop and has all the skills to go right to the very top.

4. Youcef Atal (Nice) – 7.40/10 on WhoScored.com

From virtual unknown to an in-demand full-back, the Algerian is some talent. Not only does he rack up fine defensive numbers but he contributes massively in attacking phases too – key for a modern right-back. Whether he could play as high up the pitch if he moved to another club would be interesting.

Making waves in the Bundesliga, the English talent has justified his decision to leave Manchester City. He’s a fantastic impact player right now and if he can turn in impressive displays over 90 minutes he’ll have the world at his feet.

Jose Mourinho says Manchester United ‘problems’ still exist, asked if Paul Pogba is responsible for Red Devils’ failures

Jose Mourinho says Manchester United ‘problems’ still exist, asked if Paul Pogba is responsible for Red Devils’ failures

Jose Mourinho has discussed Manchester United’s ongoing struggles and claimed the club still have the same ‘problems’ they had while he was in the Old Trafford dugout.

Mourinho was sacked last December and replaced by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was appointed caretaker manager and oversaw an immediate turnaround in form.

However, the Red Devils reverted to type when Solskjaer was handed the job on a permanent basis, and they ended the Premier League season in sixth after drawing with Huddersfield and losing to Cardiff in their final two matches of the campaign.

The veneer is starting to slip from Solskjaer and Manchester United

The recent struggles have absolved Mourinho of much of the blame originally laid at his door for United’s failures, and the ex-Chelsea boss believes the problems he faced at Old Trafford continue to haunt the club.

He told L’Equipe: “I do not always do my analysis publicly on Manchester United. I do not want to talk about it and I have the feeling that I do not need to speak, that time gives explanations.

“About United I want to say only two things: One is that time has spoken. Two is that the problems are still there.”

Solskjaer has suggested there will be a big clear-out of the playing squad this summer, with big-name players such as Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial and Romelu Lukaku all potentially facing the axe.

Pogba and Mourinho endured a fractious relationship, especially during the latter’s final months at Old Trafford, and he was asked whether the France midfielder was the main problem at United.

“No no,” he continued. “The problems are there, you can imagine that it is the players, the organisation, the ambition. I only say that I cannot say when you ask if Paul was the only one responsible.”

Mourinho also insisted his claim that guiding United to a second-place finish in 2017/18 is his greatest ever achievement is now clear for all to see.

“I said nine or 10 months ago that after winning eight championships, finishing second with United may have been my greatest achievement,” the Portuguese added. “Now people understand.”

Vincent Kompany’s most crucial goals for Manchester City

Vincent Kompany was Manchester City’s hero once again after his 25-yard screamer gave his side a crucial 1-0 win over Leicester on Monday.

The winning goal means Pep Guardiola’s men are a point ahead of second-placed Liverpool with one game left to play.

Vincent Kompany’s goal was vital to Manchester City’s title hopes in 2012

Kompany powerfully headed past David de Gea in first-half stoppage to hand City a vital 1-0 win over title rivals Manchester United. The win took Roberto Mancini’s side ahead of United at the summit of the table on goal difference.

It meant City would need to win their two remaining games to get their hands on a first top-flight in 44 years, which they did thanks to Sergio Aguero’s 95th-minute winner against QPR on the final of the season.

But the club would not have been in that position if it was not for Kompany’s vital goal in the Manchester derby.

Vincent Kompany’s second-half strike secured another Premier League title for Manchester City

After convincingly beating Aston Villa four days earlier, City only needed to avoid defeat to West Ham on the final day of the campaign to win their second Premier League title in three years.

Samir Nasri opened the scoring before Kompany doubled their lead in the 49th minute to put the game to bed.

It was a routine win for Kompany and co, whose resolute defence saw West Ham fail to register a shot on target.

Kompany was called upon to lead his side out against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final last year. The Belgium international scored the second of three goals as City comfortably beat the Gunners.

The towering centre-half was named man-of-the-match for his commanding performance, which saw Guardiola win his first piece of silverware in England.

The game was starting to get edgy as James Maddison’s shot from range had just drifted wide. And with City struggling to create meaningful chances, Kompany came to the rescue. After driving forward with the ball, he unleashed an unstoppable shot which flew past Kasper Schmeichel in the 70th minute.

After widely celebrating his first goal in over a year with his team-mates, Kompany remained calm and composed at the back to ensure City held on for the win.

Kompany will be lifting his second successive Premier League title if the club beat 17th-placed Brighton on Sunday.
